The Vision Behind the UCP Institute

At UCP Charter Schools, we operate under a profound belief: every child has the right to an education and a life without limits. Since 2001, we have grown from a small group of three schools to a network of eight, serving over 2,000 students. Over time, UCP has cultivated a unique instructional model that works for students with the most complex learning needs.

Today, we are thrilled to announce the next phase of our journey: The UCP Institute.

Beyond our Classrooms

For over 20 years, UCP has refined a student-centered approach that combines rigorous instruction with a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. We’ve seen the success firsthand, but know that many students with disabilities across the country face barriers to high-quality instruction.

The vision behind The UCP Institute is to bridge that gap. Through our federal Dissemination Grant, we are transitioning from a network of schools to a national hub for inclusive education. Our goal is to empower other charter schools to confidently include students with disabilities by sharing the tools and strategies that have worked for us.

The UCP Institute is more than a website, it is an interactive knowledge exchange designed to support educators in real-time. It’s about building a community of practice where no school or educator feels alone when trying to include a student with disabilities. The vision includes several key features:

  • The Model Classroom Video Library: A collection of instructional videos filmed in real UCP classrooms, showing exactly how to implement strategies and co-teaching partnerships.

  • A National Community of Practice: A space for school leaders and educators to connect, obtain resources, engage in professional learning, solve challenges, and share lessons learned in inclusive education.

  • Sustainable Replication Guides (Coming Soon): We aren’t just sharing ideas; we're providing the “How-To” on staffing models, scheduling templates, and funding strategies that make these practices last.

  • The Experts on Call Center (Coming Soon): A customer-service based support system where educators can get “in-the-moment” answers to help with specific student needs.
